Why You Should Shop Local

Many people today prefer to purchase their books through Amazon for convenience, that's how the company first started. It's easy to buy books through Amazon and then receive them the next day. But there are many reasons to shop locally instead. Some of these reasons include:

  1. The experience. Perusing books on your laptop does not even begin to match the feeling of walking through stacks of books in bookstores and feeling physical, tangible pages. Amazon lacks experience that local bookstores have. It lacks that same joy you feel holding the physical book.

  2. It's better for the environment. Buying books locally creates less waste in the long run. Think of all the packaging you're saving by choosing to shop at a local bookstore. You don't even need to get a bag; put your books in the tote bag I know you're carrying.

  3. Get better recommendations. Most employees are readers themselves and will recommend their favorite books to you. Sometimes when I check out, the cashier will make a comment on the books I picked, "Have a tissue box ready for this one," "I loved this book," etc..

  4. It's better for the author. Authors receive more revenue when books are sourced locally rather than bought from Amazon's high stock volumes. If you're purchasing a new book from your favorite author, you might want to consider taking the drive to your local bookstore, and supporting them in a greater capacity.

I definitely understand the appeal of Amazon. Sometimes, you just NEED a book right away and don't have the time to go buy it. But whenever I can, I always try to buy books locally rather than have them delivered by Amazon. Hopefully, this convinced you to try to do the same.
